Client: Rat Race Events

Delivery Date: 9-11th May 2016

Project summary:

6000 runners took part in what remains the World’s largest obstacle race, with 200 obstacles in the 20 mile course it remains a one of the most challenging endurance obstacle races. When Gorilla delivered the very first Rat Race Dirty Weekend course the course was a mix of permanent and temporary obstacles. In subsequent years the permanent ones have been checked, repaired where necessary and ‘enhanced’ some old favourites returned in the temporary sections but there were plenty of new surprises, created and designed by Gorilla & Rat Race events.

GORILLA role summary:

Design, planning, management and execution of course, maintenance of permanent obstacles and the creation of the new temporary..

GORILLA role detail:

  • Design and specification of all structures followed by build
  • 3 week build and 7 day de-rig
  • 20 new structures for 2016
  • All delivered by a team of 14 people

Timescales involved:

4 week planning period followed by design, build and de-rig

Result / Outcome:

The event was a huge success in glorious sunshine the 6000 competitors ran, climbed, crawled and swam around Burghley house. Because the event is held in the grounds of the historic Burghley House which is also used for horse trials it was important that the site be returned to its pre Dirty Weekend condition, which it was. We will be back for more of the same madness in 2017, see you there!
